Unloaded the bisque kiln, sanded the bisqued pottery and started glazing.

Received a last minute order today of tumblers (B mix clay, T matt/Chun glazes with wax resist design) to be included in the next glaze firing. Luckily I had made extra for a current order and will be able to glaze and fire them for this new order. Also in the new order are 8 tumblers with the same decoration using Death Valley clay which I will work on at a later date.

Prepared the Turquoise Matt and Chun White glazes for tomorrow’s glazing.

Checked out new Shimpo wheel prices and found they are about $1200 before shipping. Decided to see if I can repair my old wheel.

Worked on the pottery wheel and discovered that the belt was loose (probably stretched from 30 years of use). I tightened it as much as possible and it slightly improved the performance of the wheel. I will order another belt.

Because the wheel has been under performing, I decided to stop adding more coils on this vessel and the finished size ended up 21″ wide at the top x 10″ tall (half as tall as intended). I’ll do the larger vessel after I replace the belt on the wheel.

Fired bisque kiln and worked on large coiled vessel. Having problems with my electric wheel not being able to handle the weight of the clay. Looking to get another wheel that has a larger capacity.

Bisque kiln loaded for a firing tomorrow.

Started another large vessel using the Korean Onggi method.

Making large vessels using the Korean Onggi technique.

Finished the 1st vessel using the Onggi coil, paddle, and throw method.

1st coil on the base.
Coils added before paddling and smoothing. Will repeat this process until the desired height and width is reached.
Few more coils to add before finishing.
Finished size is 16″ wide at the top, 9″ wide at the base and 14″ tall.
