Started part of the order for the gallery/showroom in Hilo by throwing 12.5 dinner plates using 4 lbs. B mix each. Thrown dimensions are 11.75″ diameter x 1.5″ height.
I was planning to start the order for the gallery/showroom in Hilo today by throwing dinner plates but the wet weather preventing the too-moist clay to dry out enough. Will try again tomorrow.
I was pleasantly surprised to receive an email with this picture attached from a woman in Alaska who bought plates from my studio about 10 years ago. She kindly wrote that this is her favorite plate and that she enjoys using it.
I always appreciate getting feedback from my customers and to see pottery that I’ve made in the past. It makes me feel good that people are using pottery from RYH Pottery in many places in and outside of the Big Island.
Since getting the order yesterday, I decided to play it safe and get more clay from my supplier, High Fire Hawaii. Lucky for me, they had what I needed so I drove down to Hilo and picked up 200 lbs. of B mix and 100 lbs. of Death Valley (cone 10). I now feel ready to start the order.
Met with a representative of a soon-to-open gallery/ showroom in Hilo and received a fairly large order for a “soft opening” on April 9th.
It’s going to be a challenge to finish it on time especially since the weather has been so rainy. Luckily, about half of the order was already in inventory otherwise it would be definitely impossible to finish the total order by April 9th.
